Sounds like you need to run a program called Hijack this.
Its free and should find the hijack thats causing your
problem.

I am getting the same exact thing! I have SBC Yahoo
DSL, and thought that the problem may have been with their
latest update. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with tech
support last night with them, and they couldn't tell me a
darn thing, didn't understand why it was happening,
said "That's weird." All I have to say is they better not
charge me for it!
I have been trying many options. I have tried totally
reinstalling Windows and my Yahoo DSL..same ol' 404 error
message, not bringing up search results. I can open a web
page if I know the EXACT address, and type it into the
address bar at the top, but that doesn't help when you
have to research.
The only search engine I have found that will work on
my computer now is http://www.dogpile.com Being a teacher
I have to search the net often. I have been lost the past
two days without being able to search. Like you, google,
yahoo, altavista...all wouldn't work. I finally tried
dogpile. Try it to see if it works for you. I hope
Microsoft gets this whole mess straightened out VERY soon!
I miss my Yahoo. The problem is definately with their
latest Explorer update.

It prevents access to the most major search engines such as Google, Yahoo,
Lycos, MSN and AltaVista. To do this it replaces the following file:
