When I try to access my college website www.dvc.edu on my desktop PC via
IE 6 I get an error message page cannot be found...howEVER, I can access the
same site at the same time on my laptop without a problem, I have no trouble
accessing it from my work pc, and I have no problem with opening any OTHER
websites...

I haven't a clue what to do to correct this...

Four things to try:

1. Delete your TIF and History *folders* completely:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

2. Check your Cookies folder and delete any cookies that relate to the
sites in question.

3. Check your Hosts file as per this article:
Problems Using Internet Explorer with Incorrect Hosts File
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q219843

More info on the Hosts file:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hostsfaq.htm

4. Got to a Command prompt (Start...Programs...Accessories) and type in:

ipconfig /flushdns

Hit Enter.
