switches itself back

Hello Bill,

It sounds as though you may be infected with the QHosts trojan virus (or
similar). Scan your system with the latest anti virus definition files.
You may also want to run a spyware/malware removal tool on your system.

After cleaning the virus off, you need to patch your system so that it can
not be exploited by the same virus again.

Microsoft has released a patch for the vulnerability exploited by the trojan
virus.

Hi Mike,

I have a similar problem. I can't use any Internet Search
Engines. They all bring me to a cpanel blank page. The
cpanel home site (www.cpanel.net) has an area that states
that I may be infected with the QHosts trojan.

I have up-to-date Symantec Norton Anti-virus corp.
version and use Watchguard SOHO firewall. I also am up-to-
date on all of the Microsoft critical security patches (I
have always been up-to-date on the antivirus updates and
critical patches).

I went to Symantec's site, downloaded a program designed
to remove the QHost trojan (after turning off System
Restore). I followed all of the instructions to the
letter, but still can't use google, Microsoft search, or
Yahoo search. All still point to the same cpanel website.

Any ideas of what to do? Aside from deleting IE and re-
installing that is...

Thanks for any and all help,

Norm

Hello Norm,

You don't mention whether you have run a spyware/malware scanner program on
your system.
If you have not, then I would strongly suggest doing so.

You also may have a program that is starting up at Windows startup that is
hijacking your browser.
You may want to try a clean boot of your operating system to see if this
makes any difference.
