After upgrading to XP from Win ME, my Dial up Networking will not load pages
in internet explorer or Firefox. It performs the dial up and connects but i
can't browse any web sites. i have tried to allow all necessary programs via
the firewall with no success. I had this problem once before with Win ME and
I had to delete my WINsock registry entry. Not sure if this could be the same
issue in XP. please help

As a starter I'd double check all the setup items under Tools>Internet
Options>Connections as some of settings might not have been picked up
correctly in the upgrade. Since you are connecting "User Name" & "Password"
are Ok but...

Take a look under the Connections Tab>Settings>Properties>Networking. Are
you specifying the correct dial-up server PPP:Windows
95/98/NT4/2000,Internet? Are you allowing connection to Internet Protocol
(TCP/IP) under "This connection used the following items?" There are some
more in there but you get the idea. Hopefully it will be as simple as that.

Thanks. I checked the settings and they seem to be fine. I still cannot
load a browser page. Any other ideas.

In WinXP SP2: You can fix Winsock by going to Start | Run and typing
CMD
In the command window type
netsh winsock reset
