Dave

My IE browser has been hi-jacked. Everytime I start up IE
it takes me to the site about:about. I tried Microsoft and
Spybot anti-spyware with no success. I am using Windows
2000 and tried uninstalling IE, however, was unable.

If there are any ideas how to deal with the culprit I would
appreciate it. And when using Windows 2000 how do I
uninstall IE 6. I will reinstall it later. TIA.

get HijackThis.exe from
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/hjt199//HijackThis.exe

Save it to C:\hjt (new folder) then Open it and select
Open the Misc Tools Section. Click the two boxes next to
Generate StartupList Log and then press Generate
StartupList LOG. This will bring up a notepad file. Save
it somewhere you can find it again and send me the
HijackThis log as an attachment.
You can try just copying it and pasting it into a reply
but I
might not see it. I should be able to identify the
problem and tell you how to get rid of it for good.

Also go to http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%
20Runners.vbs which should download the vbs program Silent
Runners.vbs. Put it on your desktop. You may need to
turn off Norton script blocking if you have that and
AntiSpy may also object but the program is safe and will
scan your system for hidden registry startup entries and
create a txt file that gives its results. Please send it
to me.

First you can not uninstall IE, second make sure you do a
full scan with MS antispyware. If you still don't find
anything try ad-aware with full scan and make sure this is
updated as well.

Is it the "About:Blank" hijack? Probably, so go to:
http://castlecops.com/postlite85827-remove+com.html and
scroll about 2/3's down the page to see what "helpless"
says to do, and begin there, reading all the way down the
page before doing anything at all. If that is not the
exact problem you are experiencing, go to the top of the
page and click on "search", enter in "remove -----" with -
---- representing the name of the hijacker, and check out
the search results.

I tried three other spyware removal programs and could
not get rid of about:blank. Microsoft AWS got rid of the
problem. Run the full scan, I ran it three times until
it got rid of about:blank.

I am having exactly the same problem as Dave - everytime
I start IE it takes me to the site about:about.

I've used Beta to scan for spyware a few times and each
time I find a spyware that hijack's my browser and
despite removing this, I'm not able to restore my usual
home page.

Any ideas on how to tackle this problem would be
appreciated. Dave have you found a solution to your
problem?

Regards,
Ryan
