Hi,

I use IE6, on XP Pro SP2.

Commencing a few days ago, each time I click on a link, or enter the URL of
a web page to open it, the page appears, but remains frozen for about 25
seconds, before I can scroll or otherwise work on the page. This continues
each and every time without exception, even to go into the pages in this
forum.

The green progress markers show progress quite rapidly until the rectangle
is full and then just wait there for the 25 seconds. After they clear the
page becomes operable.

I do not know what I did to cause this. I have removed the Norton anti virus
and firewall, but no difference.

Please advise cause and cure. Many thanks

Roy Mayo.

Hi,
First, clear the IE cache. IE> Tools> Internet Options> General> Delete
files (and delete offline content when that dialog pops up) It's often
recommended that the TIF folder be kept at about 50 MB (Settings.)

Next, from IE> Tools> Manage add-ons, disable non-microsoft add-ons to see
if one of them is causing this. If the problem goes away, re-enable
individual add-ons until the troublesome one shows itself.

Or this may be a malware problem- adware, spyware, hijacker, trojan, etc.

Don Varnau, hello,

Thank you and I reply immediately after disabling some very strange looking
add-ons, about which I recognise nothing.

The normal operation of IE6 has returned except for an icon at the bottom of
the page which says 'manage addons'. I except that I will be able to get rid
of it eventually.
