Here's one that has me stumped so far. I used Spybot Search and Destroy to
kill a bunch of adware and spyware on my wife's system as well as
uninstalling the ones that had an uninstall. When I was done her browser
can't find any pages at all. Our peer-to-peer network is working, she can
get data from Weatherbug (hey, she likes it) and her instant messenger
service still works but the browser is dead. I've tried uninstalling IE but
it doesn't really uninstall it (only removes menu and desktop references to
it), undoing the Spybot fixes, and doing an upgrade re-install of XP.
Nothing has worked. I'm thinking I might have to do some serious registry
hacking but would rather avoid it if possible not to mention figuring out
which keys need to be adjusted. I could waste at least a day since I haven't
found any information on how to fix this problem yet.

Search the harddisk for a file name, simply, HOSTS - with no extension.
If found, rename it to HOSTS.BAK.

Thanks for the help, but that didn't do it.

Okay. Next stop is Kelly's link, below. Click on "I" and scroll down to...
"How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in
Windows XP"

Whatever it's doing, it's apparently something that isn't recognized as
needing repair. I've tried the suggestions there and none of them worked. I
guess what I need to do is completely remove all of the IE settings on that
PC. I thought I'd seen something on how to replace the registry settings on
that PC with the ones from my PC which is working but now I can't find it.
Grrrr. This took way too much of my weekend, especially since I was sick
anyway.

Is there another group more specific to IE 6 that I should post this in?

I had the same problem last week after running SpyBot (coincidence? Never
caused any probs before)
Tried various repairs with no success, but rolling back System Restore to
the previous day fixed it.
