Browser crashes

My IE6 browser crashes every time I try to use it. It
started about 2 weeks ago and has become worse and worse
to the point that it is now impossible to browse. When
reporting this to Microsoft, a message suggests that this
may be caused by IGetNet och you get directed to
PestControl. Purchased PestControl, ran a scan and deleted
all spyware but the problem persists. XP Professional OS.
This does not affect Netscape. Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem. I started getting an error:
"Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." last week. I
am using Windows XP Home with all the latest updates.

I found Microsoft support article 318378 about reinstalling
IE 6. However, after setting the IsInstalled registry
entry to 0 for IE 6 (but not Outlook Express) when I tried
to reinstall IE 6 SP1 from the Microsoft download, I
received a message that the application was not logo tested
for Windows XP and it refused to install. I applied the
workaround in 828031, but this did not correct the problem.

Anyone have other ideas other than XP reinstall?.

Maggie,
1. Check for adware, spyware, parasites.
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:

I'd run Ad-aware followed by Spybot S&D. (Instructions at that site.)
2. Repair IE:
