I have had a similar problem - I do have play sounds in web pages checked.
I seem to only have problems with sites where there is a little mini player
showing on the page.
Internet Explorer has ceased playing the audio on web
sites that have audio tracks. Is there a setting for
this?
So, are you saying that web pages which have
built-in-you-don't-have-to-do-anything; sound will work OK, and those which
have a mini-player which involve clicking a button do not?

Yes, the ones with the mini player are showing what looks like a "broken"
file - but it works fine on other computers. I have tried changing the
default players for wav files with no luck - it seems worse with windows
media player as the default, then there is an empty place where the player
should be. With quicktime, i see a quicktime logo but no player.
