If you are curious as to how fast your browser is try out the above. I used the Sunspider test and it works in Windows 7.

Athlon 64 X2 5600 2.9GHz
4 GB Black Dragon DDR2 PC6400
Arch 64 2010.05
Samsung F3 hdd

FF 3.6.15

Total: 1039.6ms +/- 4.8%

Running the same set up as above with Windows 7 gets me,

Total: 1040.0ms +/- 4.9%

I ain't tried out the FF 4 yet.

An I hate to say this but it looks like a win for the Penguins  Windows eat yer heart out :p

571.4ms +/- 2.2%

Win7 Chrome

Looks like Chrome is twice as fast as FF in Windows. Over in GNU/Linux land Chrome is three or four times faster than FF 3 though FF 4 narrows the gap a lot .
I'd have a go at Chrome but I don't think I could sync me bookmarks with Xmarks an I can not do without me bookmarks.

What do i win?

(Win7 x64 and FF 4.0)

(and thats before I've gone into about:config)

OMG...
Code:
============================================
RESULTS (means and 95% confidence intervals)
--------------------------------------------
Total: 163.7ms +/- 0.8%
--------------------------------------------

I've lost a whole 0.1ms!

Hey V_R, do remember you've got a super F.O system - hey ;)

This may just have a teeny weeny influence on things.

Or is the whole thing only dependant on ISP/local exchange/method of connection/browser?

On the other hand, WGAF? :)

AFAIK, its jut a browser benchmark Flops.:)

This is SunSpider, a JavaScript benchmark. This benchmark tests the core JavaScript language only, not the DOM or other browser APIs. It is designed to compare different versions of the same browser, and different browsers to each other. Unlike many widely available JavaScript benchmarks, this test is....
Here

Just tried my work machine. XP x86 Pro.... Again fresh new clean profile. - Seems FF4 really does benefit from a fresh install. ;)

Code:
============================================
RESULTS (means and 95% confidence intervals)
--------------------------------------------
Total: 276.4ms +/- 0.7%
--------------------------------------------

Can anybody do any worse than this? :)

RESULTS (means and 95% confidence intervals)
--------------------------------------------
Total: 5920.7ms +/- 0.8%

IE8 in Win XP

Same machine, FF 3.6:

RESULTS (means and 95% confidence intervals)
--------------------------------------------
Total: 913.4ms +/- 4.9%

What does this tell me? :D

Still can't figure out how to close one open tab in FF, nor can I figure out how to export bookmarks, don't want to change to V4.0 until I can do that.

FF always shows a page, you could click on the "home page" button if you wanted to navigate away from the last site you visited.
XMarks will transfer all your bookmarks from any FF to any othere FF's. Or you could try the FF Sync tool folks on another forum give it the thumbs up. Total: 913.4ms +/- 4.9% that is pretty darn fast .:thumb:

Same set up on Arch except with FF4 givesa super speed boost,

Total: 317.8ms +/- 0.7%

:drool:That is around 70% faster.

I'll try Windows 7 later on but I recon it will be about the same speed.

Closing a tab: Just click the 'x' on the right side of the tab. :)

Exporting bookmarks is easy, just copy the places.sqlite file out of your profile folder found in...

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\XXXXXXX.default

He he just installed MacPup 520 to a usb stick and as it came with FF4 I ran sunspider,

Total: 333.1ms +/- 1.4%

Not a bad speed for a Live OS me thinks.
