Browser Backup Stopped error

I'm using WIndows XP Pro, SP1 on a P4 machine with .5GB of
RAM. I'm networked to another machine using a router.
For whatever reason, when browsing with IE 6:

"Version: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
Update Versions:; SP1; 3283; Q822925; Q330994; Q828750;",

IE locks up and I must kill the process with Task
Manager. (Eventually, this problem will lock up the
entire system forcing a reboot.)

The error reported from Event Viewer is as follows:

"Details
Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 8032
Source: BROWSER
Version: 5.0
Component: System Event Log
Symbolic Name: EVENT_BROWSER_BACKUP_STOPPED
Message: The browser service has failed to retrieve the
backup list too many times on transport %1. The backup
browser is stopping."

"Explanation
The backup browser will stop being a backup when it tries
and fails to retrieve the list more than 5 times. It will
start again after one hour."

"User Action
This could indicate problems with the master browser."

I can find nothing to help resolve this cryptic problem.
Any ideas?

That error has nothing to do with IE, it's from the Computer Browser service
running for the network you set up. FYI, my browser service is set to
automaitc, it's started, I only occasionally boot another machine on my
network, and I never got the error. I also don't have any network drives
mapped to this computer, I access them though My Network Places when
necessary. Check the dependencies for the browser service.
