Any site that I try to go to download a software update...
As soon as I click the download button IE terminated completely. I have
tried to add these sites to my safe sites and mankes no difference. I have
set allIE settings back to default. Even if I go to IE/Tools/ Managed add-ons
I get kicked out. I have deleted cookies, but when I try to delete files IE
goes into 'is not responding' mode.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Babs :-)

First, try this:

Try deleting the History and Temporary Internet Files *folders*
for the user account having the problem. See:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

.........if still no joy, continue:

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out what malware is causing the
problem.

Besure to reset the 3rd party browser setting.

You might want to refresh your scripting engine:

or

If refreshing your scripting engine didn't help, you might try reregistering
these two DLLs
Run these two commands from Start> Run> cmd [enter]
regsvr32 vbscript.dll [enter]
regsvr32 jscript.dll [enter]

Next, reregister (regsvr32) all DLLs listed in the "Resolution" section of
this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679

Next, another program (perhaps friend, or foe) is probably interfering with
scripting. Start at
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=4075
Then go to http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
Go through the steps there for the preliminary cleaning, then post a
HijackThis log to the forum at

Hope this helps :-)
