Brought the Noise

Hello. I just put together this rig:

K8V Deluxe
AMD 64 3400 (stock heatsink)
1 GB Corsair TwinX 3200
Sapphire Radeon 9800XT
120 GB WD SATA
Audigy 2 Zs platinum
Antec TrueBlue 480 PS
Vairous CDR, DVD etc..

and finally a KingWin ALU KT-424 black aluminum case.

I thought it a pretty decent machine, on paper. I agonized over the parts as
this was by far the most I'd ever spent on a computer. It runs really,
really well, very fast.

BUT

It sounds like a goddamn F-111 on takeoff. It's so loud! Where did I go
wrong, and how can I start to bring the noise level down? I am comparing it
to my Dell 8100 dimension I got in '01.

Thanks for advice. I'm new to the home built thing.

The WD drive still uses ball-bearings AFAIK, you might consider a
fluid-bearing HDD.

As for the fans, it's pretty easy to just unplug them one at a time and
note noise difference. The CPU will be fine for a dozen seconds or more,
long enough to unplug CPU heatsink, note noise change, then power off
system to replug it. Same goes for the video card, except it may be
easier to upplug fan with card removed, install it then power on/off.

That case has a pretty restrictive rear fan grill, it should be cut out.
If you have a front fan installed, if it has similar stamped-in grill, it
should also be cut out. A good low-noise replacement fan might be a
panaflo L1A series, (as it's often called on the 'net, the "L" is the
important letter towards the end of the part number, not "M", "H". They
are relatively quiet with high airflow/noise ratio but for the most
discriminating ears it might be desireable to further reduce their speed
with resistor or series of diodes, fan controller, etc, in series on the
fan lead.

Basically you simply have to tackle this part-by-part. Sound deadening
material can be necessary for the utmost noise reduction, but it's not
worthwhile until the rest of the system is optimized, first.

Don't remove the heatsink! He means unplug the heatsink fan.

You have my sympathy ! I have just built a P4 system with arctic silent cooler, Abit IS7
mobo, changed the 380 watt psu for an antec 550,
set all the fans up on temp control, tested it with a spare gf 440, ran very quiet, not
silent as antec claim about that case...I took a while choosing the parts so the thing
would be pretty quiet and then the owner then shoves in a leadtek 350 and it sounds like a
dam helicopter, you can hear it in the next room !!

Where's the noise coming from?

Have a nice week...

This is OT, and I don't mean anything personal by this, but I couldn't spend more than three
seconds on your site before I promptly closed the window. First, the forced sound that plays
when it loads, and second, scrolling text. I can't stand any type of animation on a webpage
(unless I'm there to view a work of animated art), but the extra problem with scrolling text is
that hitting "ESC" does not shut it down.

There's might be some good stuff on your page, but I'll not be subject to your cute html
gadgets.
