Hi

I have manually refilled the toner on my Brother 2030, but the dumb
machine insists it is empty, and Brother don't want to know. Anyone
know how to bypass the machine's detection method? I can't figure out
at all how it is actually measuring the toner, or assuming the
measurement. Help!

Here is the answer.

Call Brother Tech Support and describe your problem. See what they
say. I would think they know how.

Is this cartrdige a "starter" cartridge that came with the printer?
If so, does it have a white "flag" at one end, it looks like a little lever
that can rotate something over 90 degrees (from memory)?
If it has the flag you need to take the cover off the cartrdige and rotate the
flag by hand to its other extremity, you can't do this without taking the
cartridge apart to disengage the gear that turns the flag, it isn't hard.
If there is no white flag then I know of no way to do this other than buying a
new cartridge (these always have the flag), insert the new cartridge and it
should reset the printer, you can then use the refilled one. After that you can
use the new one and refill it (resetting the flag of course each time).

I think you will find that there is also a chip on the cartridge that may
require replacing.
