This Brother HL 1050 must be about seven years old.
It has recently begun misfeeding part-way through
about every third or fourth page, so that one or two
lines of print are distorted (as if italicized.)

I guess this is due to worn rollers. Any advice?

Depending upon the materials used (they all tend to "look" like rubber,
few are) the best cleaner rejuvenator may be water, isopropyl alcohol,
an ammonia base cleaner or a citric oil based solvent, should under
names like "rubber renewal liquid" etc.

Unfortunately, without a proper service manual it's hit and miss as to
what is the best liquid to use.
