Hi - I have my XP Pro computer connected to a Brother MFC-8220 printer.
I have all the latest drivers and patches applied. Three or four
times during the day when trying to print a Word document, the computer
freezes. If I restart the spooler service, Word recovers and complains
about the printer not being available. Any ideas how to troubleshoot
this issue?

Thanks.

Is it not possible to send a FAX using WinXp Pro via a LAN broadband
connection.
I seem to be getting the info from various newsgroups that an old
fashioned Modem is the only thing that works.
Any help would be great.

The modems aren't expensive and many people already have long distance
plans that offer quite reasonable per minute rates. Many long distance
phone plans are significantly under $0.10 per minute. It only takes a
minute or two per page. After the initial hardware investment most
people in the US could send several pages to any location in the US for
the price of an envelope and first class stamp.

There are organizations that will relay page images from the internet to
fax machines. Expect to pay a fee or have an advertisement added to your
fax. Unfortunately the repipient probably wouldn't appreciate their
paper and toner/ink used to print any added advertisements. As the
service relaying the fax would have various expenses including ISP and
phone fees they would need the revenue from user fees or advertiseing.
Read their web sites for details.

The first several hits on a Google searh for "fax" pointed to sites that
offered the service (some were sponsored links) or explained how.

Correct, the Fax module included with Windows XP will only work with a
standard dial-up modem. To do Faxing via broadband requires an Internet
E-Fax service:
