Brother MFC 7420 distinctive ring (Aust)?

Hi all

Am thinking of getting a Brother MFC 7420. Any opinions from users?
Working reliably with the Australian distinctive ring (duet) system is a
must, but I can't seem to successfully download the full manual to see
if this function can be poperly invoked (for example it's not in the
index for my current MFC 3420C although deep in the manual it's properly
addressed and does in fact work).

BTW, have been very unhappy with the MFC3420 and the ink jet technology
it uses. Jets just failing after about a year and constantly wants new
cartridges allthough my use is light. On the other hand, have always
had good experiences with the laser technology.

Would appreciate response from an actual MFC 7420 owner, happy or
otherwise, or being told of any other relevant newsgroups.

Surely *someone* on here knows these printers? Have now been able to see
the manual and my question about distinctive ring is answered, but I'm
intrigued at the total lack of replies. Either Brother have not sold any
of this model (!) or else no-one with the model reads this ng (which may
or may not mean that no-one netwise has had a problem with the model,
which is no doubt good).

However, I *would* have expected some replies about the MFC 3420C
inkjet, which in my oponion is terrible technology and I am fed up to
here with continually having to replace cartridges although I'm a very
light user, and now have an intermittent fault on the ADF just outside
warranty, plus error 41 (faulty print head - known issue which Brother
aopparently puts right free, but the nearest service depot is kilometres
away...) whenever I try to print more than one page. This has almost
put me off Brother for life, but the laser MFC 7420 does seem to be a
different animal.
