Hi Folks,

I have a Brother MFC-3820cn in which the prinhead died and I got
a replacement with partial instructions to install the new one.

In the instructions one part refers to updating the EEPROM with
info about the new printhead and that appears to be missing.
What it says is:

(21) Update the head property information stored in the EEPROM of
the main PCB, referring to Section 2.3

Section 2.3 is missing :-( and I don't know how long it will take
them to get the information to me, if anyone can help it would
be very much appreciated!

Thanks, Chris.

With MUCH flogging of google I was able to find the answer :-).

How about sharing this with the those who have flogged google and foun
nothing of use except this post where we first thought it would lead t
something only to be disappointed that the found information was no
shared? Don't be selfish. Sharing is caring! :

I'll share since no one else cares ;)

Here are two sets of instructions that should help, fro

here's the gist of it (This applies to all recent Brother inkjets. I
you know of a more general forum to place it in, feel free to copy i
to there.):
Your new printhead came with two identical barcode labels, one on th
head itself, and one loosely taped to its packing. The topline on tha
label is a 13-character code that instructs the machine about thi
head's parameters. Here's how to enter it into the machine afte
changing heads. Unplug the machine from power. Hold down the MENU ke
while plugging it back in. The display will read "MAINTENANCE". Ente
"68" on the keypad, then "2580". Don't touch the Enter key here; th
machine expects a 2-digit number, then the 4-digit number, so it jus
obeys without the Enter key. The display now shows the Parameter numbe
for your old head, with an underline cursor flashing under the firs
digit. Enter the new number on top of the old. Where letters are used
hold down the # key like a Shift key, and touch the correspondin
number: #-1 for A, #-2 for B, etc. The 13th digit is a check digit. I
automatically changes as it calculates it's own value from what you'v
already entered. Enter the first 12 digits, and the 13th should alread
match what's on your new label. Press SET to finalize it. The displa
should read "INPUT ACCEPTED", then go back to "MAINTENANCE". Enter "99
to exit the maintenance mode.
Inside the printer section of your machine, you'll see the paramete
sticker for the original printhead. Peel your new sticker off it
backing and put it over the old one.
Usually a brand-new head and inks will still have some clogged nozzles
Run it through some test-page/cleaning cycles until it's good.
Brother has never built heavy-duty equipment, but they're trying t
make good on these printheads. Since being avalanched with thi
problem, they've doubled the warranty on heads to two years, cut th
part prices on new heads by 2/3 for non-warranty repairs, and pumpe
out new printheads at an amazing rate to their service centers.
