Hi,

My printer (above) is only 10 months old and according to the test page
counter the drum has only done 2100 pages. I have cleaned the drum twice but
print quality is still poor ( grey background with vertical lines). I only
print standard A4 paper and don't print any other paper or envelopes.

Has anyone experienced similar problem? Does drum need replacing? Clearly
I should not need to change the drum after 2100 prints!

Thanks

Regards

Mehdi

A lot of problems are caused by paper dust contimination of the
toner. Some people insist on using multi purpose paper - that's paper
for InkJets, Laser and Copiers - this has way too much filler, this
cause a build up of dust inside a printer and is murder for copiers.
The solution is to use only plain copier paper, it will be cheaper
and your printer will have a longer life.

However what happens is this, this paper dust gets into the toner
cartridge and eventuall you have so much in the cartridge that you
get smearing and an overall gray cast on the page. You will also
notice that the surface of the paper is dusty, some of what you think
is toner comes off, this is toner with paper dust.

You could try a new toner cartridge and change to plain copier paper,
if this doesn't cause an immediate improvement then just go and buy a
Bro HL-1240, it uses the same toner cart, use you opened cart when
you set it up.

However, most important, STOP using high quality multi-purpose paper
change to cheaper plain copier paper only. OK so it won't work as
well in your sons InkJet, however he should be getting his own paper.
