Is it possible to use this fax machine as a printer by sending it a
'fax' directly from your PC?

You can use this as a printer directly connected to your PC using Parallel or
USB cables and downloading the drivers from
http://welcome.solutions.brother.co...top.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=fax4750e_us

That would be much simpler than sending a FAX to it, and the formatting of the
document would be better.
However if you do want to do it by sending a FAX that is also possible but you
would need to make sure that your FAX has access to the telephone line while
the PC is on line, no problem if you are on broadband but an issue if your PC
is on dial-up using the same telephone line as the FAX. Not sure you would want
to do it this way though.

Thanks, I didn't know that.

Will it also work with XP or just with Vista?

It will work with both according to Brother. I have set up several Brother
FAX's as PC printers in Windows XP but not yet in Vista, I see no reason why it
wouldn't work provided Brother have written the drivers well. I haven't seen
any bad drivers from Brother in recent times however.
If you go to the web site I posted, just select the appropriate options and you
will be directed to the correct driver for your printer/FAX.
Good luck.
