The onset of this was quite sudden: near the end of the toner cartridge's
life, dark horizontal background bands started printing on my laser Brother
HL1020. I opened the drum unit (DR300) and cleaned out excess toner, and
replaced the cartridge with an original Brother TN300. The bands are now
lighter, but still there. Several thin vertical white lines interrupt the
bands. I noticed that when the printer has been just turned on, the bands
are very light, and get progressively darker with each page. When I print
text, the characters have a sort of white shadow on the dark bands under
them, like an embossed effect.
What can I do? I can't really afford a new drum unit right now. If that's
the problem, can I repair the drum unit? Where do I find parts? Or are
rebuilt drum units worth it?
