I am having problems with my network adapter not being
able to pick up an IP address from the DHCP server. Two
other computers on the LAN can do so, and the suspect
adapter card is allocated an address if it is placed in
one of the other PCs. I suspect that something has got
corrupted within my Windows system configuration but
cannot see where. Everything was running fine until I
installed the new adapter card (Wireless D-Link 650+), but
the card does work on other PCS.
I am running Windows 2000 v5.00.2195, and I can see two
error messages. Using the winipcfg utility I get an error
2 when I try to renew the card, and occassionally I get an
error 10038. Running ipconfig /renew from a DOS window has
the following error message - "The following error
occurred when renewing adapter Local Area Connection 6. An
operation was attempted on something that is not a socket."
Needless to say, I cannot find my Windows 2000 installer
disk, so a straightforward re-install + repair is not
currently an option.
Thanks
