broken links /pictures on web sites

Ok I really don't know how to explain this other than this.
allot of the web pages I am pulling up have what I call broken links or
pictures what I am seeing is a square with a x in it the square is usually
white with the x being red or black.
I have done several different viruses and spyware scans found nothing.
Anyone have any ideas.

I went to the RedX website you posted and followed the first advice
instruction (start, run "regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll") which loaded successfully.
However, I can now no longer access or use Internet Explorer!

When I attempt to launch IE6 browser, an error window opens stating that
"Internet Explorer cannot download / from www.msn.com" and only gives me the
option to close the window. IE6 browser never opens or launches.

Can you please help me undo whatever the heck the above "run" action did?!?

Actually the first is temp files... But...

You should try running the command again - if that's no good then maybe you
have something deeper afoot. Have you tried restoring to a point before this
happened?

1) I cleared all my temp files + cache + cookies (incl. using CrapCleaner)
2) I re-ran the "run" command again (regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll) with no joy.
3) I have successfully completed a system file check (run "sfc /scannow) to
attempt to restore required *.dll files to their original state.
4) I have attempted to utlize the WinXp System Restore admin tool but when I
launch the program the window opens totally blank and totally inaccessible.
5) I have since tried to run/register/re-register multiple *.dll files as
directed by various microsoft support posts (followed by restarts) with no
joy.

I know 100% that whatever change initially running the command (regsvr32 /i
mshtml.dll) created is what has caused this massive problem, because I was
using IE6 at that time and then immediately after running the command I no
longer could access IE6 without performing any intervening actions.

If you're at a loss to help further, can you at least explain the difference
between the (regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll) and (regsvr32 mshtml.dll) run commands,
and what actions they perform? Also, I noted some ms support posts instruct
to run certain regsvr32 actions with a "-i" at the end. For example,
"regsvr32 mshtml.dll -i" Can you explain what this "-i" addition does?

Always disclose your OS when you need help.

The regsvr32 command you were given would be a generally
applicable command for any OS, which does reset some filetype
associations for some URL protocols.

It would also be done as part of an IE Repair. Ref. KB194177.

FYI - it appears that I have identified and fixed the problem myself!

Here's what I did that worked:

1) I uninstalled Microsoft Update WinXp Hotfixes KB904942 and KB912945.
2) I re-ran (re-registered) "regsvr32 mshtml.dll"

Now IE6 launches normal and appears to be operating just fine! It seems
that the second hotfix I uninstalled (KB912945) was the magic culprit
because it was only after uninstalling that one (I happened to uninstall the
other first so I'm still posting it as part of the solution) when the
re-registering worked.

NOTE that I discovered this all via posts on the following URL thread:

I suspect interference from third-party programs.
The re-registration of mshtml.dll is one part of a full IE Repair.
If the third-party programs have more hooks into your OS
repairing that one part but leaving the other parts installed
could have the effect of breaking some previously functioning
transparent surreptitious and (perhaps) otherwise innocuous "spying"
and thus ultimately breaking normal connectivity.

See others' posts for identifying and dealing with spyware, etc.
