Hi,
The front switch of my HP Pavilion is broken.
It's a separate part containing the HD led, the power led and the power
switch, and a 6-wire to connect it to the motherboard.
Do you think it's a spare part I can get from HP or HP-resellers, or will I
have to buy a complete new case?
Thanks for advices.

Hi
Is it a desktop or laptop?
If a desktop there is a complete pavilion case on EBay for £12.
HP pavilion 763 P4 ATX case, case only Item number: 6763944568

I hope this helps.

Look at it as an opportunity to stretch out. Aren't those little
Pavilion cases cramped? Lookie... room for another hard drive! Very
exciting!

Your only source is HP for this part, unless you want to go to a computer
store with the machine, and see if they can retrofit another one. I
personally would get the original.

Call HP, and have your credit card ready. They will send you a new switch in
the mail.

Which part of it is broken, the mechanical, electical switch
component itself or the plastic springed front button for
it?

If you linked to it or posted a good picture of the specific
problem sub-component somewhere, someone might have ideas...
it might be repairable by yourself or someone you know,
which IMO is worthwhile if the alternative is spending all
that time to transfer the whole thing to another 3rd party
case or paying an arm and a leg to get this from HP.

Try http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main to find part and how to order.

I was a bit vague above. I meant, if you linked to it or
pasted a good picture somewhere like a server, then linked
to that picture on the server, because this is a text-only
newsgroup.

Thanks all for your suggestions.
I've contacted HP for that part, they gave me the phone number of Euro-Parts
(I'm in Europe); called there, they gave me the phone number of another
company. The last one will contact me if they find the stuff (they will
probably need to order it from Euro-Parts, which in turn will need to order
it from HP).

Not found the switch on the hp's partsurfer interface.
Meanwhile I've put everything in another case and I'll fiddle a switch in
the original case. It's only a contact between two electric threads, so the
only difficulty is to find the right size.

Keep faith.
