Hi

I pulled out my usb wireless card without "stopping" it - it slipped my mind.
Pc crashed. I rebooted and it hung on the windows black startup screen. I
rebooted, it hung the same time. I heard a clunk or something from the HDD
as it did this.
I can boot into safe mode no problem. I am running scandisk the full scan as
we speak.

Is there anything else I can try to do to remedy this, or have I broken my
hard drive??? I hope not!!!

Any help much appreciated

While I try to avoid it, I sometimes insert/remove my wireless
network card while Windows is active. I haven't had any
problems so far.

The clunk sound from your hard disk is of concern. I would
now do this:
- Download and run the diagnostic program that your disk
manufacturer makes available on his site. If you don't know
the brand of your disk, boot into Safe Mode and run Aida32.exe
(http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en&pageid=3)
- If the disk is reported as OK, consider using a Restore point from
a few days ago.
- Alternatively you could boot into Safe Mode, run msconfig.exe,
click the Startup tab and untick each and every Startup task. If
this solves the boot problem then you can restore the ticks one
by one until you have isolated the culprit.

You are one lucky puppy hotplugging your wireless network card and getting
away with it.. :-)
