Hey everyone,

I have a friend that went against my advice and bought an EMachine last
year, and now, to our "surprise", it's broke! *gasp* Anyway, I've
narrowed the problem down to his motherboard.

My question is:

Will a standard MATX Motherboard fit into this EMachine case? Or did they
make it that only their MB will fit in their case?

EMachine model: T2825 Athlon 2800+

Thank you in advance everyone!

It should...
I recently replaced the mobo in a dead emachine with one I had in my
spare parts.
I have several more emachine cases here...just waiting for motherboards
to turn up.

Keep in mind that once you replace the board with an aftermarket model, the
recovery media will no longer work, and XP will likely not function (depends
on the motherboard chipset of the replacement).
Also, the OEM XP license will no longer be valid.

Impossible to say without having the case to open and look into.

However, you need to be advised that if your friend obtains a
replacement motherboard from anyone except eMachines, he'll also have to
buy a new license for WinXP. eMachines Recovery CD will work only on
eManchines' motherboard.

The recovery CD will probably not work. With most eMachines it is possible
to change the motherboard and use a generic OEM CD with the eMachines
product key to perform a repair install to get the new motherboard working.
You will most likely have to phone in to reactivate XP. Depending on what
you tell the person on the phone and how they feel that day they may or may
not activate XP for you. I have never been refused and have changed several
motherboards in eMachines. Their motherboards seem to have a high failure
rate. I recommend changing the power supply at the same time if a better PSU
will fit in the case.

Yeah, I didn't think of all that, BUT, he recently replaced another PC with
THIS broken EMachine in which he has a legit copy of WindowsXP Home. So we
should be covered. He bought it, but the PC it was reg'd to no longer
exists. It'll be a blessing for him not to have all that system bogging
software anyway pre-loaded!

Should work out....

Thank you everyone for the information and have a GREAT day!!

Did you know that unlike Dell, hp, and some others, that if you use an
emachine XP home sticker, with retail disks, it will pass the Internet
activation thing and you don't have to phone Microsoft.
