Ive got a '_NEC DVD_RW ND2500A' (As seen in device driver list). If i disable
this and restart, the computer recognises the drive and automaticaly installs
drivers on reboot as per usual. However, the Drive is not listed under My
Computer, and the error under the device driver is:

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot
find the hardware device. (Code 41)

I have installed another Drive in this same slot with the same IDE cable and
it has the same problem. The computer is well maintained with virus
protection and no apparent settings have been changed but, it could be a
virus - can a virus do this? The device driver is updated but still no change.

Anybody who has any idea as to whats going on, I would greatly appreciate
any feedback from you.
Thanks everyone

Hi
Is the drive showing in Bios correctly?
Have you thought about changing the IDE ribbon?
Make sure the jumpers on the Drive are set in the right position

Chas
Happy New Year

The startup sequence detects the IDE drive secondary master as the _NEC etc
drive.
The bios shows the drive working and allows settings to be changed as per
usual.

The Jumpers have not been touched, The cd drive is in a computer that is
rarely opened, the jumpers have not been moved.

Ive herd rumors of a microsoft critical update causing DVD DRIVES to be
unrecognised by windows? This fits the description perfect, could this be the
case?
If so what could i do

and the ide ribbon hasnt been touched. These dont just decide to stop
working do they?
Thanks for ur post
Happy new year too =)

don't know if this helps, but we bought a new computer and had trouble with
the computer recognising the cd dvd drive. Have you tried clicking or not
clicking on enable and disable digital for the drive in device manager. It
worked for us. No one can explain why. It's not supposed to affect it, but it
does. We also had subsequent other problems and had to format, so whether we
had a bug from day 1 who knows. Hope it helps

Hi, I too am suffering from the Code 41 pain... i couldn't think if it was
aafter I'd downloaded / installed something - but have tried to find out a
little more about it, it looks like its a common problem with other surprised
people too - any help to erradicate Code 41 will be GRATEFULLY appreciated
