Is it the chip actually directly underneath that heatsink? If so then it's gone I'm afraid - you'd need some surface mount soldering equipment and the chip would be almost impossible to obtain.

Your best be may be to buy a 2nd hand 9800pro from ebay, as they should be fairly cheap now (not sure though).

Yes it is :(

What if i found a broken one, because of OC... and replace the same chip? From a shop in my town?

I think its very unlikely to be honest - can you solder surface mount chips?

do not solder

Not a wise move as you are likely to cause damage to other parts of the card, unless you are an ace with the soldering & can get the exact chip required. Sadly trotos my advice as Ian's is to get a new graphics card.

Well, actually, i have done severall soldering jobs for x-box's, I almost disable the first one, but the rest worked like charm. So since i take a look at the size of the soldering points i tell you that it will be no problem. The MAJOR problem is to find a similar unusable card to replace the chip...

I think you've answered your own question - try looking on eBay to see if there are any broken cards around, or ring round your local computer repair shops etc - but of course you risk that the reason its broken is because of that chip :thumb:

Bit of a differnce between soldering in a modded Xbox and trying to replace a SMD with a normal soldering iron.

How did he manage to break a chip under a heatsink?

I cant see what he's done anyway picture aint clear enough!

I would just go and by a new card, trying to solder on modern graphics cards can cause more problems, even if you are good. Go on ebay or if the pc is of value go and buy a new card, see it as a minor upgrade.

:)...i think that this will be the only way...as i sat down and think about it, calmy. ANyway, thanks for the replies and your support (?).

But still if someone knows from where i can find a chip under the same numbers?? or this is ati/saphire manufuctured?

Well about how he managed to brake it...he was trying to pull in the power, and he used this black heatsink as counterweight, used to much strenght, and, crying came up
He was in a hurry to try he's new graphics card (actually it was my previus graphics card)

Not worth the agro pal, honestly :(

I know it's a shame but sometimes you have to let things go and accept that s**t happens :D

I've replaced surface mount components. Unless you have a dedicated hot air solder station and all the other equipment to do the job, it's nigh on impossible.

Sling it in the bin, search E-Bay, find a bargain. 9800 Pro's aren't in demand any more, you should pick one up cheap.

Well in Greece the same vard costs the same or even more...I think that i there is a good offer on e-bay, i will try it.

That's all thanks for the answers mates. I think this post is over.
