I can't help but I just wanted you to clarify a point which may help me with
regards figuring out an alternative to terminal server that allows one of
our branches to connect to our local network server....

You said...: "(although we may
share a broadband internet connection in-house) "

.....is this an alternative to using TS??...sorry, my T-network and router
skills are very basic so I just trying to understand the best way to allow
outside branches to share files other than TS or building a http browser
based administration system....

How does this scenario work?

Using a router (and hopefully a firewall) connected to the network you can
direct all internet traffic through it. and to the workstations. It is not
an alternative to using TS. If you only have 1 or 2 users, outside TS is the
best way to go as it can use a rather well configured front-end running on
the server app. Even with a dozen or so, you may well be served by using a
Citrix server instead of a web server.

A web based system is fast, but only if you use a thin client or have lots
of local dll's. It also cost as much as 10 times more to develop than a much
richer Access app. There are situations where running a web based app makes
a lot of sense, and most of those also require a more robust engine than
JET. If data that resides on a server must be access from anywhere, a web
based application is about the only reasonable choice.
