Martin

I was just wondering if anyone can help with an enquiery.

I have a cable modem, Motorola SB4100. and recently
upgraded from 500k to 1 meg cable.

The thing is ive never seen DL speeds approaching these
marks, and I have nothing else tpo compare with. The top
kbs/ reading i have seen is 100ish and my averages tend
to be from 5-15 kbs. Now im not too clued up on such
things but do you think iI should be seeing faster DL
speeds?

Thanks

PS is there a way to truly test your speed with accuracy.

i would expect speeds far above 5-15kbps. it may depend on the source.
Try downloading from a server known to provide fast download speeds
where you can download for at least 1 minute to gauge the average speed.

download a big file of known size, and time it. convert to seconds, and
calculate to get a kb per second.

other than that, there are several good programs on the internet
available for download to monitor the transfer speed in real-time (or
close to it).
