Bob once again

And once again...

Problem: After loading all (around 20) hotfixes, I
encounter a brief (3-4 seconds) black screen when the
desktop is loading.

Specifically, the desktop begins to load with the lovely
MS tune and then I get a black screen for about 3-4
seconds and then the desktop returns and finishes
loading. This did not happen before I grabbed all the
updates, so I suspect that it may have something to do
with one or more hotfixes - display driver is up to date.

hi bob,

if windows shows everything is ok then it does'nt mean that
this is the truth. i guess your problem is due to a corrupt
monitor/display driver.
i have the same problem with my monitor. windows shows 75hz
frequence but the monitor itselfs tells the truth: 60hz. if
that happens i have the same black screen behaviour when
loading winxp as you described.
test 1 thing: deinstall the display-driver and restart. if
windows finds the correct displaydriver automatically after
restart then i am wrong.

may it helps

Thanks Peter, but I think I just found the culprit to the
black screen "dilemma". NVIDIA has a "Driver Helper
Service" that loads on startup. After disabling this
service and I no longer encounter the black screen.
