I had a strange problem last night with HP onboard network Ethernet card. May be I can get some comment on this problem.
I have only two connection listed on the network connection. One is onboard Ethernet card and IEEE-1394 adapter.
For some reason the card only works if you bridge connection between Ethernet card and IEEE-1394 adapters. When I remove bridge it won’t work at all.
I tried everything and finally decided to add another Ethernet card. This card works fine. I don't have to do bridging or do any configuration. I have never came across any such problem. I don’t want to bridge connection because it eliminates the firewall. Since that is the only pc I have I would want the firewall enable.
Why does windows xp bridge these two connections? Is firwire considered a network adapter?
