When plugged in via USB is comes up
with an error about not recognising the USB device and something along
the lines of it has a problem & wasn't recognised properly.
Driver install (USB & Parallel) went without any errors.
In some cases the device has to be connected and switched on
before you install the drivers (so that the install can interrogate
the device, to identify the model, build, eprom version, and
other stuff), but this isn't always the case, the manual should
have instructions regarding installing the drivers. It may also
involve a restart to read any changes that start at bootup.
According to their web site if you hold
the 'on' button it should print a menu page or something like that,
but it never makes a sound.
The test page may be in the software, not in the printer, does
it say it will print the menu page when it is stand alone and
not connected to a PC?
Some printers are built for a world wide market, at the first
install info gets written to the printers eprom (the character
set comes to mind). Characters are a limited range of numbers,
what language these get printed as depends on the printer. So
maybe you have to carefully follow the mfrs instructions when
you install the drivers. I always install things with a good
uninstaller, so you can roll back the install, and try again,
otherwise you can get stuck with windows thinking, incorrectly,
that it already has the best drivers, and worse refusing to let
you change anything or reinstall them.
If it's an add on USB2 card this may be your problem.
My USB wireless network dongle, and external 250GB USB
drive, don't like the card, but my camera is quite happy, as are
other devices like Lexar USB jump drive. It's a bit
unpredictable.
