Brand Biased? Separate HDD for WinXP & W2K Pro originally from IBM PC won't Boot

Hard Disks from an IBM PC (Pentium4) cannot boot from OEM
PC.(Only 1 HDD was connected each time -Primary Master.
Bios recognises the HDD without fail but they just won't
boot from the OEM PC.) Hard Disks were installed by IBM
Tools program and/or from IBM Product Recovery Disks. On
the OEM PC, the normal POST run and after displaying
msg 'Verifying dmi pool data....', PC stops responding
and all I get is a blank screen.

Funny thing is... the very same HDD still boots and runs
OK without fail when returned to the IBM PC.
Has tried this several times already.
Is this a Brand Bias? <Half-Joking..:)>

Does anyone have a quick fix?
Thanks....

Is the PC getting past the POST and actually STARTS the boot process then
hanging? If so, is the motherboard the drive is crashing on different to
the PC it was taken out of? If so, this is not surprising as the different
motherboard has totally different hardware so of course Windows cannot boot.
Try booting from the CD and performing a repair install...

That sounds normal and has nothing to do with "Brand Bias"
You seem to be overlooking the fact that you have also changed all the
hardware from what Windows was expecting.
You most likely need to perform a Repair Installation to properly
detect the new hardware.
It is normally not practical to swap a hard drive from one computer to
another and continue back and forth.

Repair Installation:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_install.htm
Windows Updates will need to be reinstalled.
Data should be safe, back-up important data just in case.
Install Service Pack first and by itself.
Then install ALL Critical Updates no more than 4 at a time,

Disconnect the network/modem cable before starting repair and do NOT
reconnect the cable until repair is completed and firewall is
installed/enabled.

Each installation of XP is machine specific. If you
change the hardware (changing pc's) you will have to do a
repair installation for it to correctly work with the new
hardware
