BORDERS UNEVEN

I do a lot of digital printing (I like to make 8x10 prints). So far I am able to solve my printing problems except for one that I have spent DAYS working on to no avail. I find that on my 8 x 10 prints, I am lucky if the white borders around the picture EVER come out even. I've used various software applications AND the XP application. So far, the closest I've come to printing a picture with even borders is when I use the Hewlett Packard Photoprint Software (my printer is an HP1218). I don't want to print with that application. I like the Professor Franklin application (and THEIR website is no more, apparently). Can anyone help? P.S. I would be happy to remove the border altogether.

It could be your printer margin limitations. Look at your documentation for your
printer. If you are printing on a 8.5 x 11 inch paper, you are assuming a margin of
..25 on each side and .5 top and bottom. Most color printers will have a .55 or more
bottom margin. This maybe why you are not getting an even print.
Open WordPad, file, page setup, input zero in each margin, it will default to your
printer limitation.

I am not familiar with your software or your printer.
I use Qimage to print, you can try the demo here and see if it will do what
you want:

The interface of this software is a bit awkward at first but I think this is
the best software for printing digital color images.
To print with no border, you must have a printer capable of doing this, not
all do.

You are right! The printer does have inherent border settings. I've got e-mail to Hewlett Packard to see if there's any way to change the settings. I found a document that tells me if I use different paper types, that will change the margin settings to other margin settings (but I can't remove them altogether). I'm going to try to fool the printer and tell it it has banner paper instead of 8x10 and see what happens. My HP printer is one of their "Photosmart" printers. You would think there shouldn't be an issue with margins. I downloaded "Qimage". "Qimage" is powerful but too complex for me. Picture It! seems to have margin flexability. Thanks, both of you. If you know of a way I can change my printer's own margin settings, let me know. That will be my new "quest". Thanks again.

You can try, but it will not work.
I have three printers. A Sony dye sublimation, can print borderless. An
Epson inkjet, can print borderless. No problem using XP print wizard or
Qimage to print on both. Perfect prints every time.
I have a Minolta color laser printer. This printer cannot print borderless.
Using Qimage, I set it to print 8 x 10 on paper size 8.5 x 11 with the
option that Qimage will select that all margins will be equal and will
center the print. Perfect prints every time.
I agree with you, Qimage is not for everyone. You have to spend some time to
understand it and read the online manual (best lessons on how to print
digital pictures, nothing comes close), but you will spend a lot of time
trying to "fool the printer", as you said, and I am betting you will not
win. But if you win, please let us know. My best bet is on spending your
time understanding how Qimage works and getting outstanding prints on your
printer rather than trying to fool your printer.
So, your new quest should be to use the printer you have, with the
limitations it has and use software to get what you want. Obviously with all
the best wishes and get back to us.
