Bootup problem

I recently reformatted the HDD and then did a clean install of Win XP on a
friend's pc. Everything works fine (to my relief) except that when the pc
boots up it goes to a DOS screen asking if I want Win XP or Windows. I
either select Win XP or wait for it to time out - when it then goes in to
the normal Win XP bootup sequence. How do I get it to boot up directly into
Win XP without going into the DOS optional boot up
screen first.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Pedro

Thanks but where and how do I reduce to 5 seconds. Would it be via msconfig
and boot.ini settings - or somewhere else?

I don't understand, though, why it is dual boot since the hdd only contains
Win XP. Could it be, perhaps, that when I reformatted the hdd, I used the
format /s command from Win 98 SE which was the pc's previous OS, and it
left a legacy of Win 98 in command.com?

Any enlightenment appreciated

The time is under boot.ini in msconfig. Select timeout seconds. Will not
solve your dual boot problem but will be quicker. Hopefully someone will
provide information on removing.
