I am lost.
I receive this message on boot up. Says to press ctrl-alt-del to continue,
but obviously this does not help.
Anybody?

Handling the "NTLDR is compressed" error:
http://bootmaster.filerecovery.biz/appnote6.html

Additional Info:

Windows XP Professional might be unable to find Ntldr in these
circumstances:

If Ntldr is moved, renamed, or deleted.
If Ntldr is corrupted.
If the boot sector is corrupted.

Under the preceding circumstances, the computer might not respond to input
or might display one of the following messages:

====================
A disk read error occurred.
NTLDR is missing.
NTLDR is compressed.

The first URL was a lifesaver. I had somehow checked the compress disk under
C drive options. I was finally able to boot normally, vice the A drive, after
unchecking this box. I have no idea why XP would allow me to do this.
Thank you Ramesh, you are a lifesaver!
