I've am currently booting Vista along-side Linux and I have to say Linux has
lost - it really is just one long work in progress and very little really
just works. There is not a decent spread of digital imaging software either
(video especially).

Anyway, I want to get Linux off my spare drive but that will leave the Grub
bootloader in place on the MBR. My question is therefore - how do I restore
the windows mbr without destroying Vista?

All help appreciated.

Download VistaBootPro to restore the Vista MBR or use the Vista DVD and do a
repair startup

What I have done before is to boot from the windows Vista dvd, go into setup
then check for repair installation, then choose repair boot. This has
overwritten grub and installed the windows bootloader.
However I am not going to recommend that it will work with all installations
and use it at your own risk.
