i recently upgraded my windows xp to vistas and now my operating system will
not work without the windows vista cd in my driver. when i put the cd in the
driver and boot up my pc it asks me "which operating system i would like to
use then it takes me to another screen as asks me would i like to boot it
normally, safely, and some other stuff. what the hek is going on?

You have multiple hard drives in your computer?

If yes, physically disconnect all but the drive you want to install Vista
upon. After a successful install, shut down the computer and reconnect your
additional drives. You will likely see that the problem no longer exists.

I don't use RAID. I have never used RAID. You are on your own as I can't
assist you.

I can tell you that one other person I suggested this to did it and it
worked. After the fact he told me he was running in a RAID configuration.
Had I known before hand I would not have suggested this to him. But, he
says, it worked for him also.

Assuming it's hardware RAID you're talking about, the RAID set will appear
to Vista (and the system BIOS) as a single disk. Then, counting that as the
only disk, everything Richard said would be true.

It's Intel Matrix RAID.

That's hardware - so Vista won't even know it's there. Though I expect
you'll need to use the Intel drivers during install.
