Hi,

I am trying to boot an XP Professional system system so based on the user,
the OS will start an application without the user even seeing the desktop or
"Start" functions. Then, when they quit the application, again based on the
user, shuts the computer down.
Can anyone give me some ideas please?

Thanks in advance!

if on domain, use AD otherwise see if you can use group policy to specify
login script.
failing that place script batch file in startup folder: c:\documents and
settings\all users\start menu\programs\startup.

The script will decide based on user
what app to open
action to take when app closes : "logoff", "shutdown -t 0", or restart
by "shutdown - to 0 -r"

Don't know if you can cover and disable start menu. you can sort of hide
but it will pop up when the mouse is at the border of screen.

Don't know if you plan to run antivirus software. if you do, you have to
take care of order or execution and logoff /shutdown complication from AV
and firewall. e.g floppy in drive, ....
