Had a hard drive going bad so I imaged it to a new hard drive.
With the new drive installed the system would not boot.
I boot from the XP installation disk and chose to Repair an XP
installation. Using the Boot command I setup a new boot record named
'1'. Now when I power up I either get the message 'no boot device
present' or I am given a choice between 'Windows XP home edition' or
'1'. When I choose '1' it loads the OS and everything is fine.
I want to eliminate the choice of boot options and I want to make sure
the new hard drive will be seen as the proper boot device everytime?
Should I have pre-formatted the new hard drive with a boot sector or is
there a way to do this without wrecking what's on it?
Any help is appreciated!
