Booting with a new motherboard

Hi, I have a question on Windows Prof or Home.
When installing a new motherboard, I can not get the
original hard drive to boot all the way into Windows. It
starts and just before the windows splash screen comes
up; it stops and reboots the system. This gets into a
loop that does not stop. It does pause on the boot option
menu, but I have selected safe mode and I get the same
thing. After loading several files, it loops back and
reboots the system. Is there a way to stop this? In the
past, I have just reloaded a fresh install over the
original windows and then it works fine. It would be nice
not to have to spend the time reloading if possible.
Thanks to all for any help you may offer.

In the past, you did it the correct way. Now you want to take a shortcut (it
doesn't exist).

Reinstall!

Normally, unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the
old one (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.),
you'll need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade)
installation, at the very least:

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This may also require re-activation. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.
