Look in the Disk Management tool, is there a "Healthy (System)"
partition? What exactly happens if you try to boot from the hard drive,
without the cd? What error messages are you getting?

With a blinking cursor on the top left hand corner? That is usually, or
often a sign that there is no active active partition on the disk. Does
the Disk Manager show a "System Partition"? Can you right click on the
partition where NTLDR is located and Mark it as Active?
