Booting up in dos

Hi

You can't - there isn't any 'DOS' in XP. You can boot - if using FAT 32 -
to DOS using a Win ME/98 EBD, but you can't do much when you get there. Why
are you trying to get to DOS?

No, but you'd be surprised how many DOS programs can
be made to run.....some more adequately than others---
by using the "CMD" (command) prompt.

You can go to start>run>cmd hit OK. This get
you acommand prompt but it isn't DOS it's just
am emulator but it may do what you need to do.

For a long discussion on the see the thread with
subject AIN'T NO DOS? starting around 6/4/04

You don't. Unlike Windows 9x, there is no DOS there to boot to.

The only way to boot to DOS is from a DOS diskette, but if you do
that and your drive is NTFS, you won't be able to see it without
special software such as NTFSDOS.

Although you may see this lack of DOS as a deficiency of Windows
XP, be aware that XP's improved stability over Windows 9X is
largely because it isn't based on DOS.

OK, I'll ask the question no one else has asked, what problem are you having
or for what reason do you wish to boot to DOS as we might be able to help
you resolve whatever issue you are having using XP's tools.

Here we go again with another idiot/moron telling a poster
he "can't boot to dos", either showing off his lack of
knowledge or his complete disrespect of others who know less
than him. In either case it's stupid.

To the OP: It's not really a matter of "booting" to DOS in
XP; they call it the Comman Prompt instead, and it's usually
a choice in the ShutDown box, OR you can get to it from the
System Tools. More information on what you're trying to
accomplish or why the question would get you a muich better
answer.

To the MVP: Of COURSE you can boot into DOS, if you have a
DOS disk or CD! You may not be able to access an NTFS
drive, but that does NOT stop you from booting into DOS but
there is nothing to stop that bootup.
It really disappoints me when people with so much more
knowledge than I, give information that is obviously not
what the poster needs and is even incorrect many times.
Apparently the DOS/CommandPrompt/file system is something
terribly misunderstood by several MVPs and that only serves
to perpetuate the myths rather than clarify and organize
anything for the OP.

I abhor misinformation and ignoring an OP's questions or
needs. If you don't feel like repearting yourself, or think
the person "deserves" your crud, it's time for you to take a
vacation from these groups.

While there is ample evidence to support the contention
that Mr. Denny is not the sharpest tool in the shed, there
was nothing wrong or misleading in his post. The OP was
most likely looking for the 9x *native* option to boot to
MS-DOS, and the simple fact is that in XP it doesn't
exist.

You're in this group also with your vicious name calling? Everyone is an
idiot/moron except you?
