Booting Sluggish

My computer (WinXP Home) boots into the windows desktop
fine. But then it takes 6 minutes to fill the system tray
with four icons ("Go Back" packaged with Norton comes in
quick, THEN the speaker takes 3 minutes, THEN Norton
AntiVirus and Norton Firewall come in like 3 to 5 minutes
after that. I've downloaded and run Adware and Spybot,
increased the virtual memory, cleaned the registry, etc. I
don't have that much running in the background. Norton
disk doctor DOES find errors on the disk, but says that it
can't fix them because the files are being used.
I've "stopped process" on almost everything in TaskMgr,
and tried again, but same problem. How can I fix the disk
or otherwise smooth out the boot process?

Thank you so much in advance.

Uninstall nortons.
reboot
reinstall nortons.
reboot.
Run liveupdate again untill all updates are downloaded.
(note if you have to download nortons make sure u turn on
the windows firewall before going online).

Had the same problem and this solved it for me. No slow
down still 2months later.

Disable GoBack from running at boot and see if that improves the situation.
