For the past 43Years My system was fine until a week ago,
it takes for ever to load my network connections.
The Logon Screens come up,
I can log in but I get a blank desktop.
The Mouse is active.
I thought a driver could be causing the problem.
However I have not yet found the cause to my problem.
Could you please advise.
I do not want to rebuild.
I have a lot of Data I do not want to loose.

I hope you don't have a 43-year old computer running Windows 2000.... that'd be
amazing! :-)

Try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del and press the Task Manager button... click on File and
select New Task. Type in EXPLORER and press Enter. If you get your desktop and
taskbar back, then there is a problem with your shell setting. You can look at
this registry key to change the Shell setting back to Explorer.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Look at the right-side of the registry editor (REGEDIT.EXE) and make sure the
SHELL parameter has the data set to EXPLORER.EXE

If not, make it like that.
