Help please? I can't boot my machine from the a: drive.
As it boots it find the boot sector on the a: drive and
yet does not load. The green light comes on but no sound
as if it is reading the floppy.
Norton says that the disk is ok and I can read and back up
to the a drive at all other times so ...? The bios shows
that it will check the a: drive and it does but nothing
then happens?
Any thoughts?
Many thanks, Rikki

you need six disks to boot xp from floppy drive
or if you already have xp on your system it may not boot I don't know why
but I tried it without success.
So when I need to boot outside the hard drive I use the cd

How do you know it finds the boot sector ? Does it print a message on the
screen ? Is the floppy disk formatted to be bootable ? Have you tried other
bootable floppys ?

Try switching the write protect tab, try it both ways.
The disk could be damaged. - get another one and format it
The disk could be corrupted - reformat
Check your BIOS is set to match your disk eg 1.44

The green light comes on but no sound

You should at least hear a click as the protective cover is slid back, if
you don't hear this there could be a hardware problem with either disk or
drive.

Is the green light on ALL the time ? If so it could be that the drive's
cable is connected to the motherboard in reverse to what it should be.

Is Norton creating the bootable floppy ?
