Hello

A voluntary group I work for has recently bought a new PC which does not
have a floppy A; drive. It does have a CD-RW drive (D:) & I know how to copy
files to & from that OK.

With a floppy drive I can create an emergency startup (DOS) disk and if
anything goes wrong with windows I can reboot from the A: drive.

Can I create an emergenct startup CD ? , and will the system start from the
D: drive if necessary ?

Thanks

KK

All retail versions of Windows XP, and the generic OEM versions that many
Mom & Pop builders provide, are, indeed, bootable CDs.
In your case, what is possible, and what is not possible, depends entirely
upon what the manufacturer provided. Read the manual.

There's normally no need for an ERD (Emergency Rescue Disk) with
WinXP. The WinXP installation CD is bootable, and provides access to
the Recovery Console.

Thanks for your help but.....

No manual was provided with the PC, just an instant setup guide

What is a Mom & Pop builder ?

There is no Win XP installation disk - the operating system was
pre-installed

Thanks again for your help

Have a look at the manufacturers site to see if they have a manual you can
download.

I think this means small computer system builders, not the big boys like
Dell, Gateway or HP and the likes.

The PC vendors should have supplied a means of restoring the computer to
factory conditions, either a CD or a recovery disk or a hidden partition
that contains the image of what was pre-installed.
