bootfont.bin and boot DVD

I have downloaded an XP version which is a zip file. I extract it and all XP
folders and files appear. I use Nero to copy them to a DVD but I cannot do a
fresh installation from that DVD. There is a Bootfont.bin file and I have
tried to create an iso file using Nero, Magic Iso, Iso recorder, Alcohol120,
Winimage......and none of them recognize the file. There is no .cue file. I
wonder if I must use CDs instead of DVDs but I do not think so. What can I do
to create a CD/DVD and install XP from it?. Why those programs do not
recognize the .bin file if they are supposed to do it? I am downloading the
free versions.

Use Nero's "burn an image" option. It may be a different name slightly and
the version you are using may have it in a different section all together
but you should be able to find it easily enough. Just do some digging and
the goal is to burn the disk image not burn a data disk.

I appreciate your help Galen but there are not .cue files. What surprises me
most is that none of the used imaging programs recognize the bootfont.bin
file. I have recorded all files and folders in a DVD using Nero Data DVD and
can update computers that ALREADY had XP installed but not new installations.
It makes me work double. Also, in the eOpen page that is the only option, no
..iso files. Strange. So, here I am, stuck.

Does your version of Nero have, when you try to burn it, a specific file
type already listed? If it does then change that to something like "all
cd/dvd image files" or the same thing on your version. One of the things I
dislike about Nero is their constant altering of the interface, text, and
methods when they update.

OK Galen, this is what I do:
1.- I open Nero Express 6 and insert a clean 4,7 GB DVD in the combo (I have
run out of CDs)
2.- Select Record from image and point to the folder where Windows XP
folders an bootfont.bin have been extracted
3.- Automatically it selects the Type "All compilations and Nero images" and
it shows the XP folders but not the files
4.- I try choosing other Types and and appear: .nri, .nr3, .nhv, .nhf,
udf/iso, .nrg, .iso, .cue........, but not .bin. Also all files option
appear (if I choose this one, all files appear included setup, autorun and
bootfont.bin
Whatever I select Nero says "file format not expected"
The same happens with the other DVD recorded programs

The name sounded familiar so I finally went and looked it up. My bad -
that's just a data file. That would be burned onto the disk if you were
making a BartPE disk or another type of disk to run the OS off of a CD or
what not. It looks like that file is just burned in data format along with a
bunch of other files. There is some mention of it being required to repair a
malfunctioning dual boot system but, in that case, it would just be copied
to the hard drive in question and that's not what it sounds like you're
doing.

Thanks a lot, Galen, for your help
Yesterday, looking for the manual or a server in the office, I found that
the company has a box with plenty of the original XP CDs.......and they did
not know it.
So we will not have to carry on with this
Thanks again
