i have built a bootcd using the steps from chapter 10 of sean
liming's book. the cd boots but never gets past welcome screen.

any ideas.

black,

You would probably need to list all the steps you did.

Also, please let us know how the original image worked before you captured it in the bootable CD.

1. build an iso image of the everything that is on my "e" drive
this is a fat formated 650Mb sized partition on a small 6 gig disk on
the second
ide channel.
2. i made a non-booting cd of the above image using hd2iso. sean liming
indicates to use windows pe with hd2iso. then burnt this iso to a
regualer 80 minute cd.
3. i changed the bios settings to not boot from cd put the above cd in
the drive
and let the image created in step 1. start the fba process.
4. after the fba process was completed i ran etprep -all and the
machine
shutdown.
5. i reconnected my develoment hard drive c: and reran hd2iso on drive
e:
i burnt the iso image to a cdrom.

this cd boots shows the white progress bar and the windows xp embedded
splash
screen but gets the point of showing the welcome screen. another funny
thing
is that it shows mouse pointer and the mouse works.

black_13,

After you shutdown the image after etprep -all (after step 4 in your sequence), open up the image's System hive and check
[HKLM\System\MountedDevices] key. You can post the content of the key here.

Or, before the shutdown just open regedit and clean up that key (remove all the values there) and then shutdown and capture the
image in an ISO.

i found out that there was a bios issue with board
i was working on. i have had to roll back to previous
version of the board/bios. so the procedures explained
in liming et. are is correct ... no suprise there. but
this was frustrating month of trying to pin down
where the fault was.
